This is a good reminder! I haven't done anything since you came over. My kids do have some food and clothes/diapers but I need to get in and finish it.
Great tips and well structured. In regards to the bottled drinking water I strongly urge to replace it every 6 months since bottled water will spoil unless you can boil it before use. Another suggestion is to also include special emergency (survival) water that comes with a 5 year shelf life so it can be used for drinking and the bottled water can be used for washing, rinsing and cleaning.
Momnerd--get busy girl! :) Put some things on your next shopping list and pick up a few at a time if you have to buy stuff. Most of it you can probably find around your house somewhere.
SafetyKitStore--I actually DID have the emergency water packs in the kid kits and then replaced them with the bottles. I was concerned about the un-kid-friendliness of the packs. We had pouches that had to be cut open or have a straw poked into them, and if you've ever seen a kid with a Capri Sun type drink, you know how easy it is to squirt half of it out as you're trying to get it open. These were even less rigid and therefore more apt to spillage than the Capri Sun pouches. Then once it was opened it had to be consumed at one time--there was no way to reseal the packs so you could just have a sip now and more later. Same for the boxed emergency water--no way to reseal it. So I went with bottled water and just have to rotate it more often. Thanks for dropping by and for the information! :)
I'm glad y'all said that about the water - I've been thinking that the pouches would be lighter for me (since I would also have to tote gear for my 2yo) and my 8yo daughter... so I was wondering why you were going with bottles. Now I get it! :-) Thank you!
hi.. living in south florida were anything happens.. would you put your childs name on the outside of the backpack? hate to say this but i dont want a peerve calling my childs name but i would want a medical person to know my sons name. and were would you but the medical information.

Funkyluke--I have their name on the name tag of the pack which has a flap over it so it is only visible if you are handling it. You could also write the name on the inside of the pack. I also note any medical conditions on the tag, it could probably go in a conspicuous place on the inside of the pack as well.
